Search for your most important keyword phrases. Look at your competitors’ titles and descriptions. How do yours compare with theirs? Make sure your titles and descriptions are more compelling and designed to grab the visitors’ attention immediately. Ask for several people’s opinion on this — your opinion may be too biased.
If you’re just listing keywords in your title and description versus a compelling title and description, rewrite your tags immediately.

Search for your most important keyword phrases.
Are your rankings “above the fold,” meaning before you scroll down on the page? If not, work hard on getting your rankings above the fold.
That’s the most important “real estate” on a Web page.

Are you working toward getting links to your interior pages?
If any of your interior pages are of particular importance to you, work on building some link popularity to those pages individually.
Remember: link popularity is “page specific,” NOT “site specific.”

At the bottom of your pages, do you have a straight text link pointing back to your home page? Does it say “home”? If so, this isn’t helping your site with internal link reputation.
Change it to “keyword phrase home” (IF it sounds appropriate to do so.)
In other words, use your keyword phrase in the link text pointing back to your home page. The link should be an absolute link versus a relative link. For example: http://www.yourdomain.com versus index.html

Do you have a robots.txt file set up on your server? Here’s what Google says in their Webmaster Guidelines:
-Make use of the robots.txt file on your web server. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be crawled. Make sure it’s
current for your site so that you don’t accidentally block the Googlebot crawler.
Visit http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/faq.html to learn how to instruct robots when they visit your site.

Do you have a site map on your site?
In Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, they suggest that you use a site map, so set one up immediately! There are many excellent programs that will create site maps for you. Put a link to your site map on every single page of your site, and link to your other pages using link text that describes those pages.

Use only one
tag per page, and use your keyword phrase in the tag. Use it toward the top of the page. Make sure it captures your visitors’ attention
as soon as they land on your site.
Also, make sure your first paragraph or the first words you use are interesting
and designed to hold your visitors’ attention.
If you don’t grab their attention and HOLD IT in the very beginning, they’ll hit the back button and go back to the search results . . . it’s as simple as that.

Another tip on freshening up some of your Title Tags. Think about this one. Is there a place you could lift a testimonial to the Title?
These usually are focused on improved results.
-Download your programs 84% FASTER with Download Magic
-Improve your memory by 200% with flash cards
You may generate more response because you put a benefit right up into the search results. Once again, this is more about gaining clicks than SEO alone.

Here is a bonus tip for those of you who enjoy writing your own high quality articles.
Chances are, if you have ever done any article marketing you already know the power of submitting a well written article to a niche or very topic focused directory geared to a specific purpose.
For example, one of my personal favorites is that of Evan Carmichael’s site which is focused specifically on the area
of business entrepreneurs. This site attracts people that are interested in all types of business. I’ve talked before about how much traffic and link benefit you can gain from articles.
But here is something you maybe did NOT know…because it has not gone out to the public yet.
Evan, is getting ready to take on more new authors and now has opportunities for you to become an author too.

Who is your “target audience”? When you write your Web site content, who are you focusing it on?
Have the search engines ever purchased anything from you? Forget the search engines! Focus on your customers! When you write content, write valuable content focused on your customers.
Focus on one topic (keyword phrase) per page only.
Your keyword-containing tags should include that one topic (keyword phrase) only. Everything on the page should be focused on
that one topic. Prove to the search engine that your page is about that topic. The page will then be very relevant for the topic.
But it be valuable for the customers.
Don’t ever create a page just for the search engines.
The search engines are not (and probably won’t ever be) your customers. Keep your true customers in mind, and give THEM true value throughout your site and in your content.
